VDR Show - Virginia Tech 2024

Lara Salas

I am from Lynchburg, VA but spent most of my life in Brazil. I am a Fashion Merchandising and Design Major with expected graduation in 2026.

About the designs

The first look is a back-cutout blazer with denim pants. I got the garments from the designer workshop and came up with the idea after that. I decided to cut parts of different pants and sew them together to make it more interesting, the pants were inspired by a Stella McCartney collection. The vines on the blazer are to symbolize this person flourishing into their own tastes and style, not just conforming with what is traditional. The second outfit is a corset satin top and skirt with painted vines and roses. I wanted a luxurious look to it, so I thought satin would be a good material. I decided to paint roses to embrace the Bloom theme.

Inspirations

I take a lots of inspiration from people or brands I admire. A few are Alexander McQueen, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Yohji Yamamoto. K-pop fashion also gives me a lot of inspiration. I think my personal style is more classic.
